Joan Mitchell

Joan Mitchell (1925 – 1992) was an abstract expressionist painter whose artwork is displayed in major museums and collections across the world. She enrolled at Smith College in 1942 and later transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago in 1944. She also studies at other schools in New York, France, Spain and Italy. She is one of the few female artists of her time to receive critical and public acclaim.
